Farmer Haig was in a fury. “Who has broken the barn door?” he yelled. No one knew what had happened. The door hinges were made of leather and now they were broken and the door had crashed to the floor! Workmen were called in and after much hammering and sawing, the broken doors were set in place again. But after a few days, there was a crash and once again the barn door was found broken! Farmer Haig sat down to keep a watch with some of his farm hands. He found two small beavers coming in the night and chewing at the hinges. When the door fell, they scurried away with the bits and pieces of wood to build their home in a stream near by! He was so charmed by the beavers that he chopped up wood and placed it near the stream. The beavers were quite happy and stopped attacking the door!
