Once, a woman lived with her daughter and stepdaughter. The mother didn’t love her stepdaughter and always used to tease her. One day, God appeared in the guise of a poor old man in their house. The woman and her daughter behaved rudely to him. But the stepdaughter welcomed him warmly and offered him water. God cursed the woman and her daughter turning them as black as crows. But he blessed the stepdaughter and turned her into an extremely beautiful maiden.
One day, the king happened to see the beautiful maiden while he was passing by in his chariot. He was overwhelmed by her beauty and wished to marry her. When the woman and her stepdaughter heard this, they became jealous and pushed the fair maiden into a river where she turned into a swan. The king’s hunters caught the swan and brought it to the palace. As soon as the swan stepped into the palace, it was transformed to its original form. The king married the lovely maiden and punished the dark mother and daughter.
