Morgan bit into his hamburger. “Oh, this is stale!” he said and spat into the lake. There was a great swishing sound, followed by great ripples troubling the surface of the lake. Large rings widened from a point deep in the lake. Morgan got up to look. Something seized his ankle. Great blue tentacles, like hundreds of snakes, waved in the air. The churning waters turned black. “Help,” cried Morgan. Harry slashed repeatedly at the slimy tentacles with a penknife. The others tried to pull him ashore. Suddenly, the lake stopped seething. Morgan looked at his leg. A brownish-black liquid that had dripped from the monster’s tentacles was splashed across it. They left hurriedly.
