Once, there lived an old lady. She went to the market and bought a new lamp. It was a very beautiful lamp. On reaching home, she filled the lamp with oil and put a wick into it. Then she lighted it. It gave a very bright light. The lamp became proud of itself and its light. It boasted, “My light is brighter than the Sun’s!” But lo! Suddenly, a strong gust of wind came and blew the lamp out. The lamp could do nothing. It felt very small and realized its folly. It never knew that it could not face the wind at all. The lady lighted the lamp once again. Now, the lamp lit without an inch of pride. It was calm. The lady said to the lamp, “Keep shining without pride. Never compare yourself to the Sun, for he never goes out nor does he need to be relighted like you.”
Moral: Vanity leads to disgrace.
