A fir tree and a bramble were neighbours. One day, the fir tree made fun of the bramble. It boasted to the bramble, “You are good for nothing at all. Look at me. I am used for making roofs and houses.” The fir tree kept on bragging about itself. The bramble kept on listening and listening. It was wise and thought for a while. Then it looked at the fir tree and replied, “You are so happy thinking about how you are used to make roofs and houses. Poor you! If only you can think of how the people will cut you down with axes and saws. Then you will wish that you should have been a bramble rather than a fir tree.” The fir tree was rendered speechless.
