The people of a village near Khiva were very afraid. A group of bandits often came to their village and looted them. One day a brave warrior, Ali, stopped at their village to eat and rest. That same evening, bandits again attacked the village and the villagers ran away, screaming in fright. Ali was not frightened and attacked the bandits with his bow and arrows. He soon defeated all of them. The villagers thanked Ali and said, “O brave Ali, please stay with us and protect us!” “I cannot stay here, but I will help you,” promised Ali. Ali started teaching the villagers how to save themselves from the bandits. He taught them how to use bows and arrows. At the end of each day, he would give a golden arrow to the person who did best. Within a few weeks, the villagers were confident and no longer feared the bandits!
