The Camel in the Lion’s Den

King Lion lived in the forest with his advisors – a crow, a fox and a leopard. The lion would hunt for food and share it with his advisors. One day, a camel lost his way and reached the lion’s den. He said, “Please don’t kill me!” The lion said, “All right; you can live with us.” The camel lived there happily. One day, the lion was wounded in battle. He became weak and stopped hunting. The leopard and the fox couldn’t hunt enough food for everyone. Sometimes they returned empty‑handed. It was difficult for them to survive without food. One evening, the fox went to the lion and said, “Your Majesty, please eat me and save your life.” The lion said, “No, I cannot kill you.” Then came the leopard, but the lion refused to eat him. The camel thought, “The lion loves them, so he refuses to kill them. I should offer myself too.” But when the camel offered himself, all the animals killed him. He lost his life by making a foolish offer.
