The Candyman

“No! I want the big Lego toy box!” screamed Boris in the middle of the store, “I want that and nothing else!” His parents were red-faced with shame. They had tried to pacify Boris with chocolates, toys and many more things. But Boris was adamant. He wanted only the one Lego toy, which unfortunately was out of stock and was not going to be available till the next year. Boris was a spoilt brat and did not care for anyone else except for himself. In fact, he was self-centred. “Be nice. Santa keeps a naughty list. Try not to be on that list,” told Boris’ parents to him. But he always said, “Boohoo!” to it. He did not believe in that list. One night, just a couple of months before Christmas, Santa came to Boris in his dream. “Boris, you need to listen to your parents. Be nice to your friends. Help others. Otherwise, your name will be first on that naughty list and then there will be no gift for you,” Santa said sadly.

But Boris turned a deaf ear to even Santa’s request. On Halloween night, Boris dressed up as a skeleton and went tricking and treating. As usual, he was mean to his friends and forced his neighbours to give him a lot of candies that were meant for other kids as well. Coming back on the way home, he stopped in the park to eat some candies. Just then, his candies started sticking to each other on their own. They grew and grew until they together became a huge Candyman. “You don’t seem to be a very nice person,” growled the monster Candyman. And he started chasing Boris. His bony hands and sharp nails were right behind Boris’ ears and Boris feared that the Candyman was planning on pulling his ears out. Frightened Boris ran. He yelled, “Help! Please help!” But no one came. He had been so mean to everyone that no one wanted to help him. Tired, he fell down. Just then a little beggar boy came and stood in front of Boris. “You big mean man…go away! Don’t scare this helpless boy,” he yelled at the big Candyman, pointing to Boris. Immediately, the Candyman melted into hundreds of different candies. Boris realised his mistake and promised to be humble from then on.
