The Chipmunk’s Nuts

A chipmunk was busy collecting nuts. Winter was soon approaching, and it was very important that he collected and stored nuts. After all, he didn’t want to go hungry during winters! The first thing that the chipmunk’s parents had taught him was to be quick! He was a small animal and it would get him out of trouble and dangerous situations. As the chipmunk collected nuts, the little butterflies were busy collecting nectar from the dying flowers, calling out loudly, “Hurry up! Collect your food! The flowers are dying! Winters are coming!” As the little chipmunk picked up the last nut of the day, he thought, ‘This should be enough! Luckily, I got an early start to collect good nuts. I can go to sleep earlier this year!’ The next day, just before going for his long winter sleep, the chipmunk decided to check for one last time in his storeroom. Opening the door, his eyes popped out and his heart sank. “Oh no!” he cried, “Someone has stolen all my nuts!” There was not a single nut left in his store! He could think of no one who would want to steal his nuts. Sadly, this meant that he would have to collect the nuts again. Thankfully, there was still time before the winters came. So, the chipmunk started collecting the nuts all over again. Soon, he was done. His nuts, unfortunately, got stolen again! And again, and again! The chipmunk was tired. So, one night, he decided to wait for the thief. THUNK! TONK!! Soft thudding voices startled him.

Creeping slowly out of his hiding place, the chipmunk looked and froze! There stood a four-footed giant, orange-coloured elf, green-eyed, pig-nosed and with sharp scary teeth! He was busy putting the nuts in a big bag! “Stop!” yelled the chipmunk. The monstrous elf turned around with the most dangerous scowl on his face. He lunged towards the chipmunk. The little chipmunk ran! He knew he had to be quick. He rushed out, round the corner, and into the house of Mr Cobra. There, he hid behind the sofa. The elf followed. HISS! CLONK! CHOMP! GLUGG…. The clever chipmunk quietly left the house, while the elf was busy looking for him! The chipmunk knew that Mr Cobra loved eating elves. Of course, the monstrous elf didn’t know that at all!
