It was Christmas. Tammy and Kitty were alone as their parents had gone out. Suddenly, they heard music in the street. They saw a little boy singing and playing a flute. He was barefeet. Tammy and Kitty invited him in. He told them that he was very poor. He had no shoes, and had to go singing from house to house for a few pennies in order to get some dinner. And he was very hungry. They both felt sorry for him. So, they played games with him. Tammy and Kitty treated him to a wonderful feast. He had never had one like it before. Meanwhile, their parents came back. Tammy introduced the boy to them. Kitty said to her mother, “I have learnt something. Whenever you feel sad and lonely, find somebody sadder and lonelier than yourself and cheer him up. It will make you feel all right.”
