The Christmas Goblins

Green eyes, pointed ears, yellow teeth, hairy and smelling like dirty socks that had not been washed in years! This was how the evil Christmas goblins looked like. No one had ever seen them but there were stories about how they would sneak inside people’s homes close to Christmas and break things. They damaged the Christmas trees and ripped apart the gifts. These goblins hated Christmas and made it horrible for others as well. Patsy loved Christmas. She waited the entire year for it. She would be so excited that she would bake lots of cookies and cupcakes. Then she would distribute them to everyone in her neighbourhood. She would even stop people on the streets and offer them the goodies with a bright “Merry Christmas!” Her cheerful spirit made everyone smile.

A few nights before Christmas, Patsy was getting ready to go to bed when she heard shuffling noises and grunts coming from downstairs. She slowly crept down the stairs and saw three green-eyed goblins ruining her Christmas decorations! They were breaking everything! Scared, Patsy crept back upstairs and closed her eyes tightly. The next morning, she put everything back together. The tree, the lights and she even packed the gifts again. By afternoon, it looked the same as before. It did not look as if the goblins had ever been there. That night, the same thing happened. And for the next three nights, it continued. The goblins would come in the night and destroy everything and in the morning Patsy would put everything back together. But in the night the goblins would break everything again. It was becoming a game for them! Patsy was slowly losing her patience. However, she knew that getting angry was not what Christmas was about. It was about giving, loving and being cheerful! She would not spoil it by being angry. That night Patsy put out some fruitcake and milk along with the gifts. She was waiting for the goblins when they came. But to Patsy’s surprise, this time, instead of destroying the decorations, the goblins rushed to eat the fruitcake and drink the milk! It was their favourite food! After that, Patsy would leave some fruitcake and milk every night on the dining table. Although she never saw the goblins again or ever heard them enter the house yet the fruitcake and milk was always finished by morning!
