Linda was a jumping-rope champion from a small village. She had a lot of energy and expertise–she could go on and on, jumping high and fast. One day, Jack and Mary, Linda’s friends, were with her in the park. Suddenly, Linda saw a poster stuck on a tree. She pointed it out to her friends and told them that Wilson’s Toy Store was holding a jumping-rope contest. The winner would get a wonderful new jumping-rope. Both Mary and Jack encouraged Linda to join the contest. On the day of the contest, Linda was not so sure whether she would win or not. She saw a lot of other girls and even some boys practising and they were all so good! The contest began. Linda went first. Jack and Mary turned the rope. Linda did not make any mistakes. Jamie, Olivia, Lizzie and many others tripped and fell. Finally, the results were announced. Linda had won! Linda practised every day so that she might do her best and win next year too.
