Paul was driving home from work. The weather was stormy, and it was raining very heavily. Paul was driving along the river bank, hoping to take a short-cut and reach home early. This road had many sharp curves. He was not able to see the curves clearly and slid off the road. He crashed through the guard rail and landed straight into the river! Paul could not believe what was happening. But he soon got over his shock and realised the danger he was in. If the car went under water, he knew he would never be able to escape. Right now, his car was bobbing above the water, slowly sinking. Paul knew he had only seconds to escape. He smashed his window and tried to get out of the car by holding on to the roof. Soon, he fell into the water. With great difficulty, he swam to the river bank and caught his breath. If he had delayed even a moment, he would never have managed to survive!
