The Devil’s Footprints

Around the south Devon coastline, on the night of 8 February 1855, a trail of footprints stretching on for more than 100 miles was discovered. Villagers found tracks that travelled up to doors and across roofs, through haystacks and over 14-ft walls; they even crossed River Exe. People were spooked; the prints appeared to stop right at the threshold of their homes. The prints were cloven and hoof-like, a shape associated with the Devil. There were other speculations like it might have been a Kangaroo, badger, weather balloon even hopping mice. Such is the lasting mystery of the Curious Case of the Devil’s Footprints.
