The Devout Woman and the Two Wicked Elders

Long ago, there was an honest, devout Israeli woman who used to offer prayers inside a garden every day. Two garden keepers, both Sheikhs, fell in love with her and tried to persuade her to surrender herself, but she strictly refused.

They threatened her; they would hold her against fornication. But the lady did not fear and trusted her Allah to take care of her. Immediately, they called upon the crowd and accused the woman of adultery.

People took for a public reproach for three days. On the fourth day, a 12-years old lad called Daniel followed them and said to them he would like to judge between them before they stoned her. He was then given a chair to sit on.

Daniel called the two old men separately. He asked the first, what he saw and the man told him the story, to which he asked, which part of the garden he saw this happening. The man replied on the eastern side under a pear-tree. Then he called upon the second man, who answered, it was on the western side under an apple-tree. Hence, the innocence of the woman was proved.
