Once, there was a donkey named Denu, who was wandering to graze grass. While grazing he entered the den of a lion. Fortunately, the lion was not present there and had gone to have flesh. In the den he saw the lion’s skin lying on the ground. Seeing the lion’s skin an idea came in his mind. Denu put on the skin and tried to imitate a lion. He went on scaring the other little animals around. The donkey thought, ‘Now everyone thinks I am a lion! Look at how they run away!’ While the other animals ran helter-skelter, a fox happened to pass by. The clever fox did not get scared. So, the donkey tried to scare him by roaring like a lion.
But how can a donkey roar? It can only bray! Just then, all the animals realized their folly and gave the naughty donkey a sound thrashing. The fox laughed and said, “You are such a dumb donkey! Don’t you know that donkeys can’t roar?” The donkey hung his head in shame when he realized how foolish he was.
