It was the winter season. An ass was unhappy as he had to eat dry stems and straw. One day, the ass wished, ‘If spring comes soon, I will get fresh grass to eat.’ But when spring came, the ass had to work hard. The lazy ass did not like to work. He thought, ‘I have to work so much in spring. I wish summer comes soon and I have less work.’ After some months, summer came. In the hot weather, it was even more difficult for the ass to work. He eagerly waited for autumn to come, when the weather would be pleasant. In autumn, the ass had to work the most. He had to carry lots of load. The ass finally said to himself, ‘I again wish that winter comes soon so that I may not have to work.’
