A dog and a cock were travelling together. When it grew dark, they took shelter under a big tree. The cock sat on the branches of the tree while the dog settled down in the hollow trunk of the tree. The next morning, the cock crowed loudly. A fox walking close by heard him. He decided to eat the cock. The fox stood under the tree and said to the cock, “You have a lovely voice. Can we be friends?” The cock saw through the trick of the fox and thought of teaching him a lesson. He replied, “Sure! Could you do me a favour? Please go inside the hollow trunk and wake my servant up. He will open the door and let you in.” As soon as the fox came near the hollow, the dog jumped on the fox and scared him away.
