The Donkey and the Jackal

The Donkey and the Jackal

Once, a donkey was busy in carrying the load of his master. He was going towards his house. Then a jackal met him on the way. The jackal laughed at him mockingly, “How foolish you are who lives a life like a prisoner. Come with me, we will eat to our heart’s content without doing any work.” Then the donkey threw down the load and they both entered a garden full of ripe cucumbers and ate to their heart’s content. After that, they went to the garden every night. One night while eating cucumbers, the donkey said to the jackal, “It is such a lovely night. I want to sing a song.” The jackal replied, “If you sing, the farmers will hear you and drive us away. And your voice is not so pleasant.” But the donkey didn’t hear the jackal and started braying.

The gardener heard him and came out of his house with a stick. He beat and tied the donkey. The jackal was watching the scene from outside and felt sorry for his friend. The jackal said to the donkey, “I had told you that the gardener would beat you.” The donkey was sorry for not listening to the jackal.
