Bowls was a very considerate donkey. Everyone on the farm loved him because he was so kind and helpful. He would willingly take all the little creatures for rides in his cart. “But it’s really not possible for Maria, the cow, or Tubby and Penny, the horses, to sit inside!” Bowls said politely. Gillian, the goat, was getting terribly fat and getting her into the cart was a dreadful business! But one day, Gillian insisted that she wanted to go for a ride. A large plank was brought. With much heaving and pulling and grunting, she was pushed up the plank into the cart. Bowl had just begun to trot when disaster struck. The cart broke! And Gillian came down with a crash! Farmer Toller angrily hauled Gillian into her pen. Bowls was in trouble too but he got some extra hay and a scolding!
