Once, a farmer owned a dog. He loved the dog a lot. He would often pat him, hug him and give him little bits of food from his own plate. The farmer’s donkey used to watch this every day. One day, he thought, ‘I work so hard in the field but this dog only wags his tail, barks and jumps on his master’s knee. Still, he is pampered by his master. If I also do as the dog does, my master will pamper me too!’ So, the foolish donkey ran inside, brayed loudly and wagged his tail. Then, he tried to jump on his master’s lap. But the master was alarmed. He thought the donkey had lost his senses. He brought a big stick and beat the poor donkey. The donkey sighed, “I only did what the dog does yet he beat me with a stick. It is not fair!”
Moral: Do not imitate others.
