The Dragon and the Dentist

Harry, the dragon had not slept the whole night. He had groaned and moaned and tossed and turned. He had a toothache.
In the morning, he tied a scarf around his face and went to Dr Ward, the dentist. He hated to go to the dentist because he was frightened of him and Dr Ward was terrified of him!
When Dr Ward saw Harry coming to his clinic, he quickly drank a glass of water and waited for him to come in.
As soon as Harry entered, Dr Ward smiled at him nervously. Harry’s tail twitched in fright and he knocked down the glass kept on a small table and it broke.
“Do you have a toothache, Harry?” asked Dr Ward.
“Yes,” breathed Harry through the scarf, burning a hole in it! Dr Ward quickly took the scarf off and poured some water over it. Harry looked sadly at his scarf, now a wet pile of ashes on the floor.
Dr Ward asked him to sit down and with great difficulty Harry arranged himself in the chair. His tail hung over the side and Dr Ward had to jump over it from time to time.

Dr Ward put on the lights and Harry heaved a long sigh. The lights were covered with smoke at once and Dr Ward had to wipe them.
He picked up his instruments to examine Harry.
“Don’t breathe hard, Harry,” he said gently, “I’ll open the window when it’s time for you to let out your breath.” Harry held his breath while Dr Ward found the tooth that was troubling him.
Then Harry went to the window and let out his breath. Washing was hanging on a line outside. It caught fire and Mrs Figgs came running out, screaming, “Fire! Fire!”
Dr Ward dragged Harry in and pulled out the tooth. Harry let out a shout. Flames shot out of his mouth and the curtains caught fire!
Dr Ward ran around to get a bucket of water. Mrs Figgs was still screaming. Neighbours came out to see smoke billowing out of Dr Ward’s house.

There was a sudden sound of sirens. The fire engines had arrived! Great gushes of water were let loose on the house. Some of the firemen charged towards the house to rescue Dr Ward. They stopped as the door opened. Dr Ward came out, covered with soot and dripping wet. Following him was a dragon, looking very sheepish and smiling at the crowd.
“It was my tooth,” he said, proudly holding his tooth in his hand.
