The Egocentric Potter

The Egocentric Potter

Once, a grocer named Ramu and a potter named Shyam were neighbours. They felt difficulty in taking their goods to the market. So they decided to buy a camel. One day, Ramu and Shyam had to carry their goods to the market. So Ramu and Shyam filled a pannier with his goods and placed it on the camel. As they walked along the road, the hungry camel would take a bite out of the pannier containing the grocer’s green vegetables. The potter noticed that the camel was eating the vegetables of the grocer but didn’t inform him thinking, ‘As long as my pots are fine, why should I care what the camel has done with the vegetables?’

He felt he had the best of the bargain and did not bother to tell his companion what was going on. When they reached the market, the camel had to sit down. He sat down on the heavier side, crushing the loaded pots under him. The potter was horrified. Now he wished he had stopped the camel.
