Once there was a tailor who lived in a village of Kerala.
In the same village also lived an elephant of the temple priest.
The elephant used to go for bath to the pond daily, and passed by
the tailor shop.
One day, tailor gave bananas to the elephant. The elephant felt very
happy at eating bananas.
Now the elephant stopped at the tailor shop daily and the tailor
gave it something to eat.
After the bath elephant would put lotus flower in front of the tailor shop.
Thus, they became friends.
People of village were amazed at seeing the friendship of elephant and the tailor.
Due to work load, one day the tailor had been busy in his work.
He had forgotten to bring bananas for the elephant. The elephant put
its trunk inside the shop as usual.
The elephant trumpeted trying to get attention of the tailor to demand
his daily fruits to eat.
The tailor signalled to the elephant to go. But the elephant would not understand.
It put forward its trunk.
The tailor got angry and he pricked a needle in the trunk of the elephant.
The elephant went away sad and crying.
The elephant took bath at the pond. But it remembered the bad behaviour of the tailor.
That day instead of plucking lotus flower it filled its trunk with dirty muddy water of the pond.
The angry elephant stopped at the tailor shop. But the tailor ignored him.
Suddenly, the elephant sprayed the dirty water into the tailor shop…
…and it went away.
All the clothes of the tailor got dirtied and he sat sad and repenting.
Tailor repented for his mistake of pricking the needle in the elephant’s trunk.
People blamed the tailor for his bad behaviour.
Next day, tailor tried to give a bunch of bananas to the elephant but it didn’t accept.
