Alice was late for her interview, so she rushed into the tall skyscraper. She had to go to an office on the 56th floor. Alice got into the elevator, along with a young man and an old lady. The elevator had just passed the 20th floor, when the lights flickered and the elevator stopped with a jerk. The young man immediately pressed the emergency button, but nothing happened. Then suddenly, the lift seemed to move, creaking a little, and tilting to one side. This did not seem good. Together, Alice and the young man pushed open the hatch on top of the lift car. They could now clearly see that one of the lift cables was about to snap. Luckily, the opening for the 21st floor was not far. Alice pulled up the old lady, and then helped the young man out. Together, all three managed to reach the 21st floor safely, just as the cable finally snapped!
