Once, a flock of quails lived together in a jungle. Some of the quails were fat while some were lean. The fat quails always used to make fun of the lean ones. “You poor skinny things!” they would say. They called them ‘rags and bones’ and other rude names, too. One day, the baboon’s wife came into the yard to choose some quails for the evening’s meal. She said to herself, “I will not have those thin birds; they are not worth eating. These fine fat ones, however, will make us a splendid dinner!” She caught a couple of fat quails and took them with her. As they were being carried into the kitchen to be killed and cooked for dinner, the fat quails wished that they had been so foolish to have laughed at their lean friends, who were now alive and happy.
