The Fox, the Hyena and the Monkey

Long ago, a hyena, a fox and a monkey lived together in one house. One day, they went hunting and stole four cows from a village farm. “Each of us will have one cow,” the hyena said. “But who will have the fourth cow?” “The oldest one of us will have it,” the fox advised. The monkey and the hyena agreed. The fox asked the hyena when she was born. “I was born many, many years ago,” the hyena said. “And when were you born?” the fox asked the monkey. “Oh,” said the monkey, “I was born on the day of creation. It was the day God made the earth and the sky.” The fox agreed with the monkey and said, “I remember it well. On the seventh day after you were born there was a celebration. I was the guest of honour.” Now, everyone believed that the fox was the oldest and they gave the fourth cow to the fox.
