Long, long ago, there lived a King with his pretty daughter. The King gave her a golden ball as a birthday present.
It was her favourite ball. One day, she was playing with her golden ball near the pond.
No sooner had she started playing than the ball rolled into the pond. She sat down crying.
Hearing the princess cry, an ugly frog leapt out of the pond and sat on a lotus leaf. The frog said, “I have just seen what happened. I will get the golden ball back to you but you have to promise me something.”
“I want you to take me back to your palace and be my friend. I would eat with you, play with you and sleep in your bed,” the frog added. The princess agreed.
The frog jumped into the pond and in no time came back with the ball. The princess took the ball and thanked him. She was happy to get her ball back.
But without waiting for him, she ran back to the palace. The frog called her but she ignored his calling. She did not want to take the ugly frog with her.
At night, when she was having dinner with her father, there was a loud knock at the door. The princess got up and went to open the door.
When the princess opened the door, she was horrified to see the frog. She immediately closed the door and went back.
The King noticed that his daughter was worried. He asked her what the matter was. The princess told him everything about the ball and the frog.
“You are a true princess and you should keep your promise, come what may,” the King said. Feeling helpless, the princess let the frog enter.
The frog hopped onto the table and asked her to let him eat from her plate. The frog ate his fill. Then, the frog asked her to carry him to her bedroom.
Unwillingly, she picked him up in her hands and went upstairs. The frog jumped onto her bed. The princess could not do anything.
The frog said, “I want you to kiss me, my princess”. The princess was shocked. Reluctantly, she picked him up, closed her eyes and kissed him.
As soon as she kissed, a bright light filled the room. The next moment, a handsome young prince stood before her. He told her about his curse and that nobody else could have saved him except her.
The princess was happy. They went to the King and told him everything. The Prince took her to his kingdom. They got married and lived happily ever after.
