Basketball is a game played with a fairly large ball by two teams of five players each. This game is played at a fast pace and require physical skill, strength as well as accuracy in throwing ball though a net basket to score points.
The game takes place on a court which is rectangular in shape. The court is divided into two halves. At the outer end of each half is a back board with a basket attached to it. A team defends its basket by preventing the opposing team from scoring there.
At any time, a team is either trying to score or trying to stop their opponent to score. The team with the ball is on offence, trying to score it must move the ball by passing or dribbling. The other team tries to stop the advanced of the opponent by taking position of the ball. It is said to be one defense. The player on defense cannot touch the player who is dribbling or passing the ball.
The concept of scoring in basket ball is somewhat similar to that of soccer. While in soccer game the player aim at getting the ball into the goal between the posts those in a basket ball game score by throwing or shooting the ball through the basket. Teams usually try to move the ball close to the basket before shooting. Each goal scores 2-3 points depending on where players throw the ball from.
In fact, the game is not that short. The clock stops when a foul is committed, whenever the ball goes out of bounds and after rules are broken. Times are also allocated for injuries. A basket ball game can there for last for long as an hour and half.
