It was mother’s birthday. Dad, Bess and Ted each gave mother a present. Only, Joan had not wished her mother nor had she given her a present. This was because Joan had used up all her pocket money. She wondered what to give her mother. She went outside to look for something to give her mother. She kept walking and walking till she came to a field. There, she saw many wild flowers. Her mind clicked. She plucked the flowers and ran home. She went to her mother and said, “Happy birthday, Mother!” Her mother said, “Thank you!” She hugged her tightly. Then Joan said, “Mother, I am sorry. I could not give you a gift as I had spent all my pocket money.” Then she gave the flowers to her. Mother smiled and said, “As long as I know you love me, I do not need any gifts.”
