A farmer and his wife had a beautiful baby-girl. They loved and pampered her a lot. She grew up into a beautiful girl. But she became very proud of her looks. She would often go to the stream to admire her own beauty. One day, the king of the crabs saw her. He came up to her and said, “I am the king of crabs. Will you be my friend?” The girl was vain. She told the crab that she did not want to be friends with an ugly creature. The crab felt insulted. To take revenge, the crab jumped on her face and made several painful scratches. The girl splashed her wounds with some water, but these hardened into scales. But the crab had not finished his revenge. He placed a spell on her and turned her into a fish filled with scales.
