The moment he saw the scrap of meat on the bow, the jackal wanted to eat that too. Why should he let even that little bit of meat go? In spite of having plenty of food available, the jackal was so mean and greedy that he did not wish even that small scrap of meat to remain there without eating it. He felt it would be a pity not to grab that too! ‘I’ll have a little snack first,’ he thought. And he seized the meat on the bow. Unfortunately, as he pulled at it, the bow-string broke loose and lashed at him like a whip and killed him immediately! Trying to get even the scrap of meat, he lost his own life, while a huge and delicious feast was there right in front of him.
