Etege Mennen, the wife of Emperor Haile Selassie, was believed to be living in paradise. At the same time, Abba Hanna, who was in charge of all the financial affairs of the Emperor was a greedy person and was living in purgatory. One day, Abba Hanna wished to go and meet Etege. He was granted permission to go from purgatory to paradise. As he went into paradise, he was glad to see Etege Mennen. He bowed to her. He stayed for a while in paradise. Thereupon, he was called to go back to purgatory. But he refused to go. Finally, the matter was reported to the head of paradise, St. Peter, and he said, “Don’t worry! I know how to bring him back. He is a greedy man.” So, St. Peter went to the gate of paradise and started shouting, “Whose money is this?” The greedy Abba Hanna immediately ran out and said, “It’s mine.” So, he lost paradise for the money.
