The Green Children of Woolpit had skin tinged with a green hue, and wore clothes made from unfamiliar materials. This strange fairy-tale originated in the 12th century. They were discovered by the reapers of Suffolk Village. The boy died but the girl grew into a young woman; her skin lost its original green colour. She said they had come from ‘The Land of Saint Martin’ where it was perpetual twilight, and all the inhabitants were green in colour. She was not sure where it was, but they could see another ‘luminous’ land across a river. One story suggests that the children were aliens transported to the Earth.
