In the vast jungle, there once lived a mighty Lion. He was proud of his strength and did not respect any other animal. The Lion roamed around the jungle to look for food. He would kill the animals and eat them. All the animals were scared of him.
One day, all the animals gathered under a big banyan tree and asked the big old Elephant, “Dear Elephant, we are worried about our life. What should we do?”
The Elephant said, “Every day, let us sacrifice the life of one animal so that he may not trouble the other animals.” The animals were upset but did not have a choice.
The first day, a timid Rabbit was sent to the Lion. He walked slowly towards the Lion’s den. The Lion asked, “Why are you late?”
“I was stopped by another Lion. But I ran away from there,” said the Rabbit.
The Lion got furious. He asked, “Another Lion in my jungle? Take me to him.”
The Rabbit took the Lion to a well. The Lion saw his reflection in the water and roared. His roar echoed back. He thought that the other Lion was roaring back at him and he jumped into the well to fight against him.
All the animals in the jungle saw as the Lion struggled to come out of the well. After a few days, he died. All the animals were relieved and praised the Rabbit.
