A loving husband had to go away from his wife on business. When he returned, he brought a parrot that was able to narrate all that happened in the past. He told his wife to keep it in the cage and take care of it. On his returns, he found out certain unpleasant things happened in his absence through the parrot and scolded his wife.
When the wife learnt that it was the parrot who squealed, she decided to take revenge. She made her slaves to pour water on the parrot continuously, run a hand-mill under the cage and show the mirror against the candlelight.
The parrot narrated her husband about the rain and thunder that made him terribly disturbed. He thought the parrot was lying and threw it away so hard that it died. But when he came to know the truth, he regretted.
The king after narrating the story said that he would not like to make a mistake like the man who killed the parrot. But the wazir insisted and said that he would want to be punished as the wazir, in the ensuing story.
