A pious man named Magha lived in a small village. There were thirty families in his village. All the people of the village respected and admired Magha deeply. They believed that he was the only person who practised what he preached. One day, the entire village gathered for a meeting. Magha decided to teach them the importance of khanti (patience). He cleaned a place for himself and turned around. Just then, his neighbour sat on it. Magha said, “It is okay; I will sit elsewhere.” He patiently cleaned another place, but again someone else sat down before Magha could. Magha cleaned the entire place and wa the last to take a seat. Everyone felt ashamed of his selfishness and praised Magha for his kind heart. In this way, Magha taught the villagers an important lesson.
Moral: Practise what you preach.
