One day, a great hunter, wishing to eat venison (deer’s meat), went hunting in the forest. He killed a deer. As he was going home, a huge wild boar attacked him. He shot an arrow at it, but the wounded boar killed him. But the boar itself had been injured by the hunter’s arrow. Soon it too fell because of its wound and died. After a little while, a jackal passed that way and saw the wild boar, the deer, the hunter. Some way off there lay a dead snake that had been killed in the skirmish. ‘Wow!’ thought the jackal, ‘There’s enough food here to last me for weeks! Now, what shall I eat first?’ He began to calculate for how long the food would last for him. Just then, he saw the hunter’s bow with a big chunk of meat stuck on the bow-horn.
