A fisherman lived with his beautiful daughter Cheryl in a small village. His wife had died. After her mother’s death, Cheryl became lonely. She even had to do all the housework by herself. She missed her mother very much. One day, Cheryl fell sick but she had to fetch water from the river. Cheryl went along quietly carrying the pitcher. As Cheryl was filling water, she saw a large fish stuck between two rocks. Cheryl helped the fish out and saw that it was a mermaid! The mermaid said, “You have saved my life. I will reward you. What do you want?” Cheryl said, “I want a mother to love me. I wish to be happy.” The mermaid said, “It shall be done!” and swam away. When Cheryl returned home, she saw that her father had married again and she had a new mother. The new mother loved Cheryl very much.
