Once, a soldier went to a hospital. The nurse took him to see an old man and said, “Your son is here.” Heavily medicated, the old man dimly saw the young soldier. He reached out his hand. The soldier wrapped his fingers around the old man’s. All night, the soldier sat there holding the old man’s hand. Later, the soldier asked the nurse, “Who was that man?” The startled nurse replied, “He was your father.” “No, he wasn’t,” the soldier replied. The nurse asked, “Why didn’t you say so?” The soldier replied, “I knew right away that there had been a mistake. But I also knew he needed his son, and he was not there. I came here tonight to find a Mr. Ben Walters. His son was killed in the war and I was sent to inform him. What was this old man’s name?” The nurse sadly replied, “Mr. Ben Walters…”
