“I wish we hadn’t named her Prudence,” said Mrs Porter for the tenth time to Farmer Porter who was smoking his pipe and reading the paper. “She’s okay,” he murmured. “No, she isn’t! She’s a cat and she can’t climb up a ladder!” said Mrs Porter indignantly. “You climb it up and she’ll follow you,” suggested her husband. So the next morning, Mrs Porter tried to climb up the ladder while Prudence watched happily. Finally, Mrs Porter picked her up and carried her up to the roof and left her there! She mewed for some time and then she saw a squirrel climbing down the ladder. “If that little creature can go down, why can’t I?” wondered Prudence. She began to follow the squirrel who was terrified! The faster it scurried, the faster Prudence ran. And that’s how she learnt to climb up and down the ladder!
