A Fox and An Ass were friends. They lived in the jungle with the other animals. All the animals would play together and share. But when the King of the Jungle, the Lion, came, everyone used to run back into their houses.
Because everyone was scared of the Lion, no one would go into the jungle to hunt for food. But now their food was getting over.
One day, the Ass told the Fox, “How long will all of us be scared of the Lion? We must go to the jungle to get some food. But we must protect one another.”
The Fox replied, “Yes, dear Ass. Let us take care of each other. No one will harm us if we are all together. I will protect you if you protect me.”
The Ass agreed with the Fox and they went inside the jungle the same evening to hunt for food.
After a while, they came face to face with the Lion. They were both scared. But the Fox acted strong and went to talk to the Lion. He said, “Dear Lion, I will help you catch the Ass. But you will have to promise to let me go.”
The Lion agreed. The Fox then went to the Ass and told him, “I have spoken to the Lion. He will not harm you. Just follow what I say.” The Ass did exactly what the Fox said and fell into a deep pit.
The Fox planned to run away. As he was trying to escape, the Lion caught hold of him. He ate the Fox first. Once he finished eating the Fox, he went to the Ass and ate him too.
