“Where did you find a name like Miranda?” asked old Mrs Pratt. “It’s from Shakespeare, mother,” said Wendy, her daughter-in-law. “Oh, him!” Mrs Pratt said, “No wonder! And what is that on her wrist?” “That’s a charm, mother,” replied Wendy, “It’s a butterfly!” Mrs Pratt didn’t believe in charms. So when Wendy had gone to the kitchen, she took the charm off and pushed it under a cushion! When Mr Pratt’s son, Joe, returned from the fields, he found Wendy searching for something. “What’s the matter?” he asked. “Miranda’s charm,” said Wendy, “It’s missing.” Joe knew his mother must have been up to her old tricks. “Mom, where’s the charm?” he asked. “Oh, that!” said Mrs Pratt, “I think it’s fallen behind that cushion!” Wendy found the charm and put it on Miranda’s wrist again. She smiled at Mrs Pratt and gave her a hug. “You drive us crazy, but we love you! I’m getting you a charm!”
