The ant has always had many enemies like birds, anteaters, centipedes, hunting-spiders, lizards and many more. Frightened with all of them, all the ants of the world once held a meeting or conference to find out the place of safety. But they could come to no decision because the discussion was a true babel of diversity and each variety of ant had its own different suggestion. So, each party resolved to go to work in its own way. They chose a king in each party and divided the labour so that all the work might go smoothly but they forgot to think of protecting themselves against the onslaught of enemies.
The red-ants lived under the ground but the anteaters approached them. The wagtail-ants fled to the trees, but the centipedes and the birds easily found them. The grey-ants took to flight, but the lizard, the hunting-spider, and the birds could fly faster than they. At last, the insect-king sent them the message of unity through a beetle. But unfortunately, he never arrived at the the place of ants. So, the ants are still the prey of their enemies.
