The Magnanimous Camel

The Magnanimous Camel

Once, in a city there was famine. Many animals and people were dying of hunger and thirst. One day the Earth trembled and heaved and out came a huge camel! It measured seven hundred paces. All the people of city were wonder-struck. A little later, the camel gave birth to a baby camel. Both the mother and the baby went to live in the mountains. The mother camel would come down from the mountains every day and give milk to the city people who gave her water, in return. Days passed and nobody in city was hungry any longer. This news reached the king of the other city and he became jealous.

Even the gardeners of the city were not happy, as they did not have enough water to feed their plants but the big camel and new born camel were chugging the remaining water of the pond and the river. The king and the gardener together chased the camel away. From that day onwards, it is said that in the city some people had milk and some didn’t.
