The Mask

Martin saw a green mask with black horns in the mask shop. The shopkeeper eyed Martin keenly. “Take the mask; you will not remove it,” he said. Martin felt uneasy but he paid for the mask and ran off. At the party, Martin put on the mask. It fit him snugly. He noticed that everyone looked at him with fear. So, he tried to remove the mask but it was stuck to his skin and would not budge. Feeling a tingling sensation, Martin looked at his hands and feet. They were hairy and his nails were claws. A frightened Martin ran back to the shop. It was closed, so, he pried open a window and crept in. He was stunned to see a mask of a young boy, exactly like him, on a shelf. He quickly tried it on and was transformed back to his old self. The green-horned mask flew back to its shelf, grinning blankly into the night.
