Once, there was a monkey trainer who used to teach his two monkeys how they should react. The trainer gave them each stomachful of meal every day, so the monkeys were very happy. Once a famine followed a severe drought in the country they lived in. There was no food anywhere, except for a chestnut tree. The trainer decided to give the monkeys chestnuts until the famine ended. He gave each monkey two chestnuts. The monkeys were furious and created a huge uproar.
They leapt around and yelped at the top of their voices. When the trainer tried to keep them quiet, they screamed even louder. Finally, the trainer understood what the monkeys were trying to communicate. They said they would die if they had to live on two chestnuts a day. The trainer felt sorry for his monkeys and decided to give each monkey a dozen chestnuts instead.
