Eddie and his family owned a pretty house near the sea. It was their vacation house and they stayed there every weekend. One weekend, Eddie’s family was at their vacation house with some relatives. Eddie and his cousins went to the beach, made sandcastles and collected shells. One evening, Eddie found a large shell that had spiral designs. ‘I wonder what this is!’ he thought. “Throw it away, Eddie! It could be a dangerous animal of some sort!” cried his cousin. But Eddie ran home immediately to show it to his father. “This is a conch. Keep it close to your ears and listen,” suggested his father. When Eddie listened, he could hear the sound of the sea. Then his father showed him how he could blow into the conch so that it might make a sweet pleasant sound. Eddie was delighted! He and his cousins spent the whole weekend making music with the conch.
