King David was now becoming too old to hear any complaints or move around the city with his soldiers. Most of the time, he would remain in his bed, feeling sick and tired and unable to move. As per the rule, the eldest son who was Adonijah was supposed to become the king. As the king was thinking about doing so, Adonijah was scared of Solomon, the son of Bathsheba. Also, he knew priest Nathan didn’t want him to become the King. So he thought of declaring himself as the royal heir. Nathan soon asked Bathsheba and asked her to tell the King about the plot and ask him to honour the promise that he had once made to her. Soon, she spoke to the King, who asked Nathan to declare Solomon as the King. As soon as the trumpet was blown, Adonijah knew that his plot to become the king had failed as Solomon had already become the king.
