The Night Light

“Winter nights were long and very scary, especially when the foxes howled!” said Marge, the sheep, to the other animals, “Farmer Godwin knew that we got spooked, so he put a night light for us.” “Then a strange thing happened,” continued Marge, “One night, a lot of fireflies came to the farm. When they came close, we saw that all of them were little fairies carrying lanterns! ‘Why do you want a night light?’ they asked, ‘We are here to light up the place in the dark! We’ll lose our jobs if you have nightlights.’ “We could not explain this to Farmer Godwin, of course. So after that night, whenever the light fairies came, we turned off the night light! They glimmered all night and left at dawn. And do you know? Not once did the foxes howl at night! Those fairies were real magic. They kept the dark and the fear far away!”
